Just How Much Salt do You Need Anyway? And How much should You Use?

Just How Much Salt do You Need Anyway? And How much should You Use?

Why are we even talking about Salt?

If you followed my last post I wrote about how lowering salt is helpful when  you have hypertension, or want to reduce Salt for general Health reasons…

Not just to lower High Blood Pressure/ Hypertension.

But, I believe the more one has a clear understanding of what they want to achieve or desire, with clarity about what their goal is, and the steps they need to take to get what they want or more of, the better chance of achieving what they desire….

In this case, the desire is health, to lower Blood pressure, to avoid Hypertension …

I will try to make it as clear as possible, while giving you clear and specific measures of the amounts of Salt intake that are safer and are a step in a good direction for your total health & Well-being, as well as elevated Blood Pressure/Hypertension.

Be aware that if you already have Hypertension, too much Sodium can exasperate your problem.

Even though it is fairly well known not to add Salt for example, to already made/prepared meals, still many Americans unfortunately do!

How much salt do need anyhow?

Specifically, you only need about 5,oo mg  per day.

Most Americans consume way over that amount.

How much is the current American using ?

Currently most Americans ingest as much as, at least 7,ooo mg per day!

This does not help Hypertension, needless to say & to put it bluntly.

However there are some ways of coping with this situation, but a basic practice would be to reduce the salt intake, to meet or come close to the guideline above.

This process does require time and patience, it does not happen overnight, but with time and practice, it will make a difference in your Health.

Do this practice gradually, and you will have success…

I will sign off now, and be back soon with tips on how to highlight the flavor of food Naturally…

If you Have Hypertension – Stray from Sodium … Why?

If you Have Hypertension – Stray from Sodium … Why?

If you have Hypertension, or if you’re blood Pressure is above 140/90 you are considered to have elevated Blood pressure.

In that case one no cost thing you can do, is outlined in this post.

This post is about You and Salt, it is about how salt affects your Blood Pressure.

The recommendation in this post is as follows:

If you have High Blood Pressure/Hypertension, it is a smart idea to kick the Salt Habit.

You can do this by gradually decreasing the salt you add to food.

Also consider preparing meals yourself, whenever possible, rather than always or Often eating out or always or ordering in.

This will allow you better control of your Salt intake and  blood pressure, as salt usually exacerbates the Hypertension problem if you already have High Blood Pressure..

There is usually more salt in ready - made foods, or foods prepared outside the home.
If you are serious about your Blood Pressure, and want to be more safe than sorry, I highly recommend, the small efforts mentioned above to avoid Hypertension and improve Blood Pressure.

Straying from Sodium (Salt) will go a long way to better Health & Blood Pressure, and help your Body not retain excess water.

How is Blood Pressure Measured*and What is Optimal ‘Blood Pressure’ Reading?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Do You know How Blood Pressure is Measured? What is Reading ##s are Optimal?

I thought it might be interesting to explain how Blood Pressure is masured…
Blood pressure which is measured in two ways, is the force that which pumps blood.

One measure refers to ‘Systolic’ Pressure, which means, or denotes Blood Pressure during heart contractions.

The other measure is referred to and known as ‘Diastolic’ Pressure, and it is the force created by the heart’s pumping blood against arteries, however this is at a resting stage in between beats..

Blood Pressure is expressed as/in this fashion, ‘Systolic Pressure’ over ‘Diastolic’ Pressure.
An Optimal Blood Pressure would be 120/80 as an example, naturally there is a “normal” range.
However a ‘Systolic’ Blood Pressure of 140/ over a ‘Diastolic’ Pressure of /80 or above is considered and classified as Hypertension.

Though High Blood Pressure/Hypertension is cause for concern, Lifestyle changes can often help to control this condition, and keep Hypertension at Bay.
Watch what you eat, is a good first step in a healthy Blood Pressure Practice.

My Wake Up Call - Is My Gift to You…

My Wake Up Call - Is My Gift to You…

Hello, You may wonder why I’ve chosen to write about Hypertension, why it’s a passion and a Mission?

Simply put, I have had my blinders on, oblivious for many years, but nature calls and I bust respond.

I must respond by declaring my priorities and overall health has always been, but as I get older, it becomes paramount to act on my priorities and take charge of my well being with health in the area of Hypertension and many other areas since all of me is related to all of life.

Hypertension to some degree, or it’s potential has been ‘around’ in my life for a very long time.

I remember being told by a nurse practitioner or some health practitioner many years ago that I could have a stroke,  if I don’t watch my weight and my blood pressure level.

But honestly , it just didn’t compute, I was just too young (which is no excuse) but I just didn’t, did Not get it that I could die.

I could die in an instant, and not even know what hit me!

Or be paralyzed on one side of my body or be unable to speak as I once had, etc. etc.

This is the power high blood pressure & hypertension can have in a life.

This is why I have started to blog about this subject.

Only a week ago we lost a family member, who died suddenly and totally ‘unexpectedly’.

No one knows when or how they will leave this life, but luckily there are some markers along the way that can guide us.

the markers such as high blood pressure can point to the way our health is headed, just from looking at those markers.

A profile of Hypertension is a definite marker that must not be overlooked.

We will explore much information in the future months weeks and days to come, to unravel some of the mystery about Hypertension.

Information/knowledge will be your wealth, but taking action & implementing on the information can be your weapon.
