The Hidden Culprit Behind the Silent Killer – High Blood Pressure/Hypertension - Choose Your Body Weight!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

You may have heard high blood Pressure/Hypertension being referred to as the Silent killer.

Why that tag?

Hypertension got it’s name as a silent Killer because often the are no specific symptoms that cry out as Hypertension (until complications arise/develop).

The symptoms of complications depend on the organs involved.

Millions have Hypertension, or elevated Blood Pressure and don’t know it, since they need to be tested ( a simple 10 second test)

Most people with high blood pressure are overweight.

Losing/Dropping ‘Weigh’ lowers blood pressure significantly in those who are both overweight and those ‘hypertensive’, with High/Elevated Blood Pressure.

In fact, reducing body weight by as little as ten pounds can lead to a significant reduction in blood pressure.

Discover what works for you to improve your chances of losing weight and keeping it off.

According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful:

Aim for total nutrition with a Multivitamin.

Extra vitamins and minerals will help enure your body gets the nutrition it needs, especially if you are avoiding certain foods ..

Find a diet that fits.

For long-term success, choose a healthy diet that you can stay with.

Creat a custom exercise plan, exercise you truly enjoy is much easier to stick to, so activities that fit your style, fitness level, and work out times are best.

Find Support, by getting the support you need, you improve your chances for long-term weight loss.

Join a group that is supportive, while you adjust to new diet/plan and exercise regimen.

These recommendations are not comprehensive and are not intended to replace the advice of your doctor or pharmacist. Continue reading my articles for more in-depth, fully-referenced information on medicines, vitamins, herbs, and dietary and lifestyle changes that may be helpful.

Gastric Bypass Shows Great Promise for Treatment of Hypertension Patients – What is the connection?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

In an Ideal world we are all at our ideal weight, excellent health, free from migraine Headaches, Obesity, High Blood Pressure/Hypertension, or Heart Disease.

The reality however is much different.

Being overweight or obese, is a marker for Hypertension/High Blood Pressure disease.

In fact one of the fastest growing elective surgeries, Gastric bypass (useful for those who are morbidly obese), and surpassed only by Breast augmentation, offers many benefits for patients with Hypertension.

As you may know, the greater the body weight, the higher the risk for many ailments including Hypertension/High Blood pressure.

It is projected that those that undergo gastric bypass surgery, 75% of patients lose up to 80% of their body weight, and 80% will go off their Hypertension Medications.

This is very encouraging news.
Though Gastric Bypass surgery may not be for everyone who may not be obese, it may work very well for the obese and those with elevated blood pressure levels. It may be  worth to go get some guidance and clarification from a health professional or Doctor.

This is a drastic measure, and a big step which requires some inquiry and pondering.

The final decision is yours, but it’s best not to do this alone.

Besides the usual medical crew, get your fiends and family’s support, as well as attending some support groups for people who are considering this option, where people who have already gone through this process typically attend and are more than happy to answer questions or help in any way.

There are other ways of coping with hypertension/High Blood Pressure, including diet & exercise, which I talk about in my other Blogs.
Enjoy reading as many as you can.
